Exporting Products
The Products export gets your catalog out of Shopify as a CSV or Excel file — product details plus every variant, option, price, SKU, and inventory count you choose to include. It spans all your connected stores at once, so you can pull one catalog across every shop, or narrow it to a single store. If you've exported products from Shopify admin before, the Shopify Standard template gives you the familiar column names out of the box.
What you can export
In Simple mode you pick from a curated list of the fields merchants export most. These are the key ones:

Switch to Template (Advanced) mode to open the full nested column tree — collections, publications/sales channels, media gallery, per-location inventory, customs info, product and variant metafields, and timeline events — and to rename column headers.
One row per variant
A product usually has several variants, so the export expands to multiple rows: one row per variant, with the product-level fields (title, handle, vendor, type, status) repeated on each row. This is the same shape the Products import expects.
If you include other nested columns — metafields, media, collections, or events — those expand as additional rows too. When more than one is selected, the number of rows for a product is the largest of the counts. The Row # and Top Row columns mark where each product begins so the file stays readable in Excel.
Filtering what you export
Add a filter to narrow the export to a slice of your catalog:
- Store — one shop, or leave it open for all connected stores.
- Status — active, draft, or archived.
- Collection — products in a given collection.
- Product type.
- Vendor.
- Tags.
The filter you set in the wizard is part of the export and is independent of whatever filter you last used on the Products dashboard.
Exporting from the dashboard vs the wizard
The Products dashboard has an Export button (the Export Builder) for a quick single-entity export scoped to what you're looking at — Current page, Filtered (everything matching your dashboard filters), Selected (only ticked rows), or All products across your stores. The full Export Wizard is the place to combine Products with other entities in one run, or to save the export on a schedule.
Scheduling
Any products export can run on a recurring daily, weekly, or monthly schedule, rebuilding from live data each time and delivering to your destination. See the exporting overview for details.
Tutorial: export active products with variants and inventory
- Go to Exports → New export (
/exports/new) and, in Step 1, tick Products. - In Step 2, keep Simple columns. Make sure Handle, Title, Variant SKU, Variant Price, and Variant Inventory Qty are selected.
- Add a filter: set Status to Active. Add a Store, Vendor, or Product type filter to narrow further.
- In Step 3, choose Excel (
.xlsx) and set the destination to Email. - In Step 4, name the export and choose Run now.
- Open the file — one row per variant, with the product fields repeated on each row.
Permissions
- View Exports (
viewExports) — build the export and configure columns. - Download Exports (
downloadExports) — download the finished file.
Account owners have both. Grant them to team members from their permissions.
FAQ
Can I export Shopify products to Excel? Yes — choose Excel (.xlsx) in
Step 3 (or CSV). A combined multi-entity workbook is always Excel.
Why does my export have several rows for one product? Products expand to one row per variant, with the product fields repeated on each row. Metafield, media, and collection columns expand the same way.
Does the export include variant prices and inventory? Yes — Variant Price, Compare At Price, and Variant Inventory Qty are Simple-mode columns, with per-location inventory available in Template mode.
Can I export product metafields? Yes — add the product or variant metafield columns in Template mode; they expand one row per metafield.
