Metaobjects dashboard

The Metaobjects dashboard brings every metaobject entry — Shopify's custom content records — from all your connected stores into one list. Instead of opening each store to check what custom content exists, which entries are active, and which type they belong to, you get a single view you can filter, sort, and export.

Opening the dashboard

In the left sidebar, go to Content → Metaobjects, or visit /content/metaobjects directly.

If a connected store is missing the access scope EcomSolo needs to read metaobjects, a small badge appears next to the menu item — open the dashboard and you'll see which stores need re-authorizing.

What you'll see

Each row is one metaobject entry, with these columns:

ColumnWhat it shows
TypeThe metaobject type the entry belongs to.
Display NameThe entry's display name.
HandleThe entry's handle.
DefinitionThe human-readable name of the metaobject definition.
Definition TypeThe definition's machine type code.
Publishable StatusWhether the entry is Active or Draft.
Online Store CapabilityWhether the entry can appear on the Online Store (Yes/No).
Created By AppThe app that created the entry, when recorded.
Created By StaffThe staff member who created the entry, when recorded.
StoreWhich connected store the entry belongs to (shown when you have more than one store).
Created AtWhen the entry was created.
Updated AtWhen it was last updated.

Use the column picker to show, hide, and reorder columns, and set your default sort — the dashboard remembers your choice.

Filtering and searching

Narrow the list down and sort by any column, so the common questions are one click away:

  • Stores — focus on one store, or leave it off to see them all together.
  • Type — show only entries of a particular metaobject type.
  • Publishable Status — show only Active entries, or only Drafts.
  • Handle and Display Name — find a specific entry.
  • Definition — group by the definition an entry belongs to.
  • Created By App — find entries created by a particular app.
  • Online Store Capability — filter to entries that can (or can't) appear on the storefront.
  • Created At, Updated At — narrow to a date range.

The search box matches by display name.

Exporting

Open the Export Builder from the dashboard to download metaobjects as CSV or Excel. You choose the scope:

  • Current page — just what's on screen.
  • Filtered — everything matching your current filters.
  • Selected — only the rows you tick.
  • All metaobjects — the full list across your stores.

Pick the columns you want, and download. If you export the same shape regularly, save it as a template so it's one click next time.

Tutorial: review draft metaobjects of one type across your stores

A quick walkthrough of a common job — checking which entries of a given type are still in draft, so nothing custom stays unpublished, and handing the list to your team as a file.

  1. Open Content → Metaobjects from the sidebar.
  2. In the filter bar, set Type to the metaobject type you care about.
  3. Set Publishable Status to Draft to show only entries that aren't active yet.
  4. Add a Stores filter if you want to focus on one store, or leave it off to review every store together.
  5. Use the column picker to add Definition and Updated At so every row carries the context you need.
  6. Open the Export Builder, choose the Filtered scope, pick your columns, and download a CSV or Excel — a ready-to-share review list.

Permissions

Account owners always have access. For team members, access follows the relevant View permission for your account — if a team member can't open the dashboard, grant it from their permissions.

FAQ

Does the Metaobjects dashboard show entries from all my stores at once? Yes — every connected store's metaobject entries land in one list. Filter by Stores when you want to focus on a single store.

What's the difference between the Definition and Definition Type columns? Definition is the human-readable name of the metaobject definition; Definition Type is its machine code. Both describe which definition an entry belongs to.

Can I see only the entries that aren't published yet? Yes. Set the Publishable Status filter to Draft to list every draft entry across your stores.

Can I export only the metaobjects I've filtered to? Yes. Open the Export Builder and choose the Filtered scope to export exactly what matches your current filters — or Selected for just the rows you tick.

A store shows a warning badge next to Metaobjects — what does it mean? That store is missing the Shopify access scope EcomSolo needs to read metaobjects. Re-authorize the store and the badge clears.
